“I really enjoyed the Forum discussions. I was excited to take an online course but felt like I would be missing out on the classroom experience. This offered the students a chance to connect and answer questions on a regular basis. Thank you for offering an enjoyable online course. The course was very structured and organized. I never felt as if any of the assignments and tests were too difficult or too easy.”

"I liked this course because it was easy to follow and the directions were given clear and were understadable. I also learned a lot of historical information that I haven't always known before. I think that online classes you almost learn more from because although you can find answers in the book on quizzes and tests, you still have to have a general understanding on the chapter, otherwise you don't have enough time to find the answers or you don't know what the questions are asking you. I think that this online class was a good experience, and I wouldn't mind taking another online class!"

“I like the anonymity and the flexibility of time. With a 2-year-old child at home, online courses allow me to continue my education. I also liked how the instructor sent us periodic messages. These messages were positive and upbeat and made me feel like he really cared. I have found that online classes can be difficult, but this class, while demanding, wasn't more than I could handle. I actually enjoyed learning about history. The instructor made this a pleasant experience and I appreciate his promptness in grading the quizzes. I feel really good about this class. Thank you.”

"I honestly learned alot about the History of CA. The class was set at a good pace. The web work compiled with the text work was sometimes a bit heavy mostly because I take too many classes at a time. Overall I enjoyed this class."

“I got a lot more out of the class than I expected. I learned about literature, geography, politics, religion and much more. I enjoyed being able to look at things objectively. My instructor's input was interesting. I will take another one of your classes in the fall. Bye, Dave!"

Dave Bush is a great teacher; easy to understand. I liked my experience with this particular course. It was interesting. The different websites that the instructor had us research really encouraged us to learn beyond the textbook.
[Early US History, Fall 2005]
I did enjoy the comments from other students and my instructor. I felt that most of the discussions were very thought provoking. I also thought that I got more out of the discussions than if I had sat in a class of 50-75 students in a classroom, where usually only a few students actually comment on lectures or material. Thanks!

I learned more about US History in this class than I can believe. I have taken, like many people, US history throughout my earlier school years, but it is amazing how much is skipped over. There was a lot of work and the class was difficult, but the quality of learning and guaranteed contact with the teacher makes it worth it. I have recommended this class to many of my friends.

This class has been an interesting one. I am in my near last semester at Shasta College to complete my transferrable AA. In completing this degree, I have left those required classes of my least common choosing (history and science) for last, undoubtedly suspicious that I would not/could not enjoy them. To the contrary, I have found both history and science of interest to me. I have been especially fascinated to apply historical events and facts to my current understanding of the world (country) in which I live. Your approach of integrating internet exercise and outside reading from the text I think has forced my interaction and thus resulted with my interest. Thank you for a positive experience.

I thought Bush was a great teacher. Both as an informational insturctor and an online instructor.

Thank you for providing me with a nice, structured class. I like taking classes that stay on schedule. It was a pleasure having you as a teacher. Who knows maybe I will be back for another one of your history classes.
[California History, Fall 2005]
One of the things I have going for myself as a history teacher is my personality - most 7th/8th graders today don't care to learn it. In the classroom it is easy to make my class enjoy their time while learning, whether by joking, listening to music - or telling them the stories behind the facts. You personalized this course even though we were unable to speak to you in person. That is a sign of a good teacher. If the State of CA decides that I need to take ANOTHER history class I would not hesitate to take one from you. Thanks!!!

I enjoyed learning about History and our instructor was a very positive teacher always encouraging us to come to him with our questions whenver we had one and always made me feel like I could accomplish this course. I appreciate everything Mr. Bush did for me.
[Modern US History, Summer 2005]
Mr. Bush was a fair and strict professor, which made him a great teacher. Thank you for offering this class online!
[Early US History, Summer 2005]
I really enjoyed your class and I think you are an excellent teacher. I really hope that you continue to teach at COS.
[California History, Spring 2005]
While this class wasn't "easy," I enjoy it very much. Thank you.
[Early US History, Spring 2005]
I love history, but I really like how you gave us interactive internet material to do alongside the textbook readings. It made learning all the more enjoyable. Oh, and I also enjoyed the pictures you'd put up of you standing in front of a historical monument/site.
[Early US History, Spring 2005]
Thank you, Mr. Bush, for teaching this history class. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it and appreciate all of your efforts in helping to make it a profitable venture!
[Modern US History, Spring 2005]
Hi Dave!
I want you to know that I've really enjoyed taking this class. I understood right
away what you expected from us. I wish more of the teachers were like you! The
material you have us read and research on the internet is outstanding!
[Modern US History, Fall 2004]
Thanks for offering this great class, I feel like I have learned a lot. Hopefully it shows in my final. Thanks!
[Modern US History, Fall 2004]
I am enjoying the class thoroughly even though it is overwhelming at times. It is sad that history is not taught in such an honest and descriptive way in high school or at other colleges. I took a history class when I was 18 at Santa Barbara City College and it was so boring that I barely passed it. This class is very informative and interesting. History 17B isn't a necessary class in order for me to get my teaching credential, but now that I have taken 17A, I am hoping I will have time to learn about the second half of our country's history. Somehow I get the feeling I don't know very much about what really went on!
[Early US History, Summer 2004]
Thank you for a wonderful semester. I appreciate your guidance and all you have helped me with. Most Internet classes I have taken are not very challenging. Your class has had a profound impact on the way I view our history and has encouraged me to pursue a greater understanding and find out more about our past. Honestly, before this class, I have never had any interest in History. I am a Math and Business Major. As a professor, through your class, you have made a difference in my educational experience. Thank you.
[Modern US History, Fall 2003]
This was my first semester of college and i would like to thank you for making it so enjoyable. Thank you for your patience with delays i had and i learned a great deal from your course. Thank you again and Happy Holidays.
[Modern US History, Fall 2003]
Mr. Bush,
It was a great pleasure being in your class for the summer semester. I learned alot and enjoyed the learning. It was quiet a challenge, but one that was welcome, and a lot of hard work for me. I work a full time job, go to school full time, and am also in the -------------. I enjoyed the learning and the assignments, Thank You very very much.
[Early US History, Summer 2003]
P.S. I never really liked history that much but this class was a lot of fun.
[Early US History, Spring 2003]
Dave,
I want to thank you for an enlightening semester of history. I enjoyed the format and the "common man" content of your class. I have already registered for your 17B class in the fall and look foreward to it. I would also like to request my final grade, I have kept track of my points and want to confirm that my total agrees with yours.
Thanks,
[Early US History, Spring 2003]
Dave
Wow, thanks. [This student is referring to his final grade.] That's great. And surprising, considering the difficulty. But I'm glad I took this course. I feel better now having basic historical knowledge. I love how the class was done too. The textbooks gave completely different perspectives, and the websites added even more. The diversity was excellent for a college course. Whoa, I look like I'm writing a brochure. I hope you have a good summer too.
[Early US History, Spring 2003]
Mr. Bush,
Thanks for the quick response. I enjoyed your class and re-learned (?) alot that my high school history teachers missed or completely bumbled. The book is excellent and the websites were all intereseting. You got back to your students in a timely manner and your instructions were clear and concise.

Dave
Thanks I enjoyed the class, especially the way you encouraged questions and your quick response. I still can't believe I made a B, after all the bad test grades! But I'm grateful so thank you!!! -D

Professor Bush-
I was wondering if you could please tell me my final grade for History 17B. I must say I enjoyed the course and I learned a lot.
Thanks
[Modern US History, Summer 2002]
Dave,
I wanted to tell you that I very much enjoyed your class. History has never been a fun subject for me and I have always struggled through it, but I feel that after taking your class, I not only learned a lot, but also took much more of an interest in history. The documents and web sited you chose, got me thinking and I can honestly say that I much more interested in History than I ever have been. I no longer see it as a boring subject.
I am also emailing you to find out if you have had a chance to calculate the scores for this class. I know that I did miserably on the tests, but am hoping that the homework was enough to pull those grades up.
Thank you for everything these past 6 weeks,
[Modern US History, Summer 2002]
I just wanted to say that this course was very well designed. Once I recognized the curriculum, I was better able to understand the concept of this course. I was, unfortunately, late in the process, falling behind early. It was not due to procrastination as much as an inability to dedicate the time necessary. My computer going down at an inopportune time did not help matters.
I look forward to attending the 17A course next spring. Until then,
Regards,
